Date13 September, 16:00 Iceland time (GMT)

Just seven days have passed. The last time these sides met, at Akranes a week ago, ÍA walked off with a 3–1 win — and KR, the pre-match favourites that day, were left to rue it. Now the venue flips: same opponent, same players, but KR at home at Meistaravellir. Few fixtures in the league offer a rematch this raw, and ÍA arrive with a wind in their sails they haven't had all summer.

The market

Both teams to score: Yes looks likely (on form)

KR have scored in every game over the last few weeks — and conceded in every one, too. Fifteen goals scored and twelve shipped across their last five tells the story of Óskar Hrafn Þorvaldsson's side: the attack grinds out goals, but the back line leaks in match after match. Aron Sigurðarson has carried the scoring, with around twenty goals on the season, and with Eiður Gauti Sæbjörnsson and Arnór Ingvi Traustason around him, the hosts have enough firepower to trouble any defence.

The problem is at the other end. Lárus Orri Sigurðsson's ÍA are unbeaten in five — three wins, two draws — and have conceded just five goals in that run, one of them a clean sheet. It's the tightest stretch either side has managed all summer, and it peaked with that 3–1 win over KR. The table still shows a gap, though: KR sit second and are chasing the top, while ÍA sit mid-table in the Championship Round, effectively playing for pride and momentum. Víkingur have long since pulled clear at the summit, so neither side has the title riding on this — but that does nothing to cool the heat in this particular game.

The match will likely be decided in the same area it was a week ago: ÍA's forwards against a KR back line that hasn't kept a clean sheet in weeks. Viktor Jónsson and Markús Páll Ellertsson share ÍA's scoring lead on around eleven each, and Guðmundur Þórarinsson feeds them from midfield with passes that find the gaps. Last time out, they found those gaps again and again. The question this game answers is simple: can KR finally tighten a defence that has given something up every single match, or will ÍA exploit the same openings once more? If ÍA can move the ball quickly onto Viktor and Markús Páll before KR settle, the story repeats itself easily. If KR keep the game in front of them and let their attacking weight set the tempo, the picture flips fast — because the hosts are not short of goals.

THE PICK

ResultHome win
GoalsOver 2.5

Both teams to score: Yes

KR have scored in every match and now play at home, where both meetings between these sides this year went to the home team and both cleared 2.5 comfortably. The hosts' attacking power should be enough to reverse last week's defeat, though their defending still invites goals at the other end — which is why both teams to score and over 2.5 come along with it.

The risk is form: ÍA are unbeaten in five, have defended better than at any point this summer, and beat this same KR side only a week ago. If Akranes hold that solidity and Viktor and Markús Páll again exploit the leaks in KR's defence, it's every bit as likely they take all three points back across the Hvalfjörður tunnel. This is not a game to trust a KR clean sheet.

This is a meeting of two of Iceland's most decorated clubs, and while the title has long tilted toward Víkingur, KR–ÍA always carries its own weight. ÍA come to Meistaravellir with that 3–1 win fresh in the memory — a rematch a week on, with the venue reversed. Kickoff is at 16:00 Iceland time.
